To help children understand the importance of sharing the good news of King Jesus. Increase an awareness of one missionary, missionary family or familiar country of focus. Recognise that we can all be missionaries wherever we are.
To help the children understand the importance of the Bible. It is through the Bible that we learn about God and his Son, King Jesus.
To help children understand that King Jesus is not just the king but he is our king. Illustrate the importance and the supreme worth of being part of God’s kingdom through the retelling of the parable of the Hidden Treasure.
To explain about God’s kingdom. God’s kingdom isn’t a visible, geographical kingdom with distinct boundaries. This makes the idea of God’s kingdom somewhat difficult to understand, particularly since there is the present kingdom of people who live with Jesus as king and the future reality of the heavenly kingdom.
This lesson will tell the children about Jesus calming the storm, a story that they may have heard before, but worth hearing again as a demonstration of Jesus’ power and greatness. One day Jesus will come back and everyone will know that he is king.

Up until now we have looked at kings (King Saul, King David, King Solomon, etc) who were ‘traditional’ kings—kings who lived like kings. When Jesus lived on earth, Jesus was a totally different king—a king who didn’t wear a crown, didn’t live in a palace, a king who lived as a servant and fully obeyed God, even when that meant death.
Unlike the Kings that preceded him, Jesus is the one true King for God’s people who faithfully represents their Father in Heaven in leading, protecting and redeeming his people.
There are so many promises in the Old Testament referring to the promised king that it’s difficult to know what to include and how to summarise the promises, but here in this lesson is a start. We call the special king who is promised, the ‘promised king’ and we will emphasise the fact that he will be king forever, unlike all the other kings.

King Solomon knew he should obey God, never marry a woman who wasn’t an Israelite and never worship a made-up god. King Solomon disobeyed God; he married women from other countries and he worshipped made up gods. They made King Solomon turn away from God.
