Bible Reference:
Matthew 13:31-32
Lesson Aim:
To explain about God’s kingdom. God’s kingdom isn’t a visible, geographical kingdom with distinct boundaries. This makes the idea of God’s kingdom somewhat difficult to understand, particularly since there is the present kingdom of people who live with Jesus as king and the future reality of the heavenly kingdom.
Main Message:
In God’s kingdom, Jesus is king. God’s kingdom is made up of people who live with Jesus as their king. One day Christians from all over the world will be together in Jesus’ kingdom in heaven.

Helping It Stick
Choose from these activities to enjoy with your kids to help repeat and consolidate the Main Message from this part of the bible.
Creative
Draw from Seed to Tree: Draw and/or colour the three (3) different stages of the seed-to-tree growth. Talk about God’s kingdom from a tiny beginning to world size.
Printmaking Fun: Create a tree using your child’s feet and hands. Using brown paint, dip barefoot in the paint to make a “trunk” of a tree. Dip hands into the green paint to make “leaves” either side of the trunk. Ask: Who can you tell about Jesus to also be part of his Kingdom?
Plant a Seed: Place a seed (veggie, sunflower, snow peas etc) in a plastic cup and watch it grow over the months. Write a tag with the verse on it ““The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, though it is the smallest of all seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree” Matt 13:32
Physical/Tactile
Let’s Grow: Try and make yourself as small as a mustard seed. Crouch down like a tiny ball on the floor then stand up and stretch out like a large tree. Let’s thank God that we are a part of His kingdom.
Build a Kingdom: Hide blocks or lego (something you can build with) around the house. Get the kids to find these, bring them all together and build a structure (to represent how God's kingdom grows by people coming together).
Small to Big Experiment: Here is a link to how to do the bi-carb and vinegar science experiment. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nFZhbEi19M8. This shows something big coming from something small. Discuss how can use us to keep growing His kingdom like the mustard seed.
