Creative

Treasure Chest: Use a half-doz egg carton to make a chest. Craft Check out nurturestore.co.uk for some treasure chest ideas. Get the kids to decorate the chest and create jewels and coins with coloured paper to fill it. On top of the box, stick a piece of paper that says: “Solomon could have asked God for…” On the inside of the lid, stick a piece of paper that says: “...but Solomon asked for wisdom. God kept his promise and gave Solomon wisdom. 1 Kings 5 verse 12”

Hot Tip: Before commencing the activity, have a finished chest to give them an example. Explain the significance of the ‘treasure chest’, its contents and the captions.

Wisdom Owls: Make owls out of paper towel rolls or toilet rolls. Fold down the two sides of the top to create the ears and make two cuts in the side for the wings. Draw on eyes, colour, paint and decorate them. On the owls tummy write “Wisdom” and “1 Kings 5:12”.

Musical

Write a Song: Create a tune or rap/beatbox that helps you remember the Memory Verse “For the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength.” - 1 Corinthians 1:25.

HOT TIP: This might be a headstart on a future RUSH TV MV Challenge!

Song: “The Greatest Treasure” by Colin Buchanan will accompany the Egg Carton Treasure craft perfectly.

Song: “A King Like God” by Ben Pakula. This album on Spotify is great for helping older kids get the overview of God’s salvation plan and where these kings fit into it. Great for older kids and parents who still like a bit of solid rock music to listen to, maybe suggest the headphones :-)

Physical/Tactile

Cloud Cupcakes: Before kids can eat a cupcake, quiz them on what Solomon’s dream was about. What did God ask? What was Solomon’s response? After a good answer let them enjoy their cupcake ! These tips from wilton.com might help you adapt a cupcake packet mix.

Lego Mania: Make a lego scene of Solomon ruling wisely. The ideas in 1 Kings 4:29-34 could be fun - don't forget all the plants and animals!
