“For the Poor” Social Action Course at Monday Mad Skills..

by Pip Budden | Posted on July 22nd in Events, Mission, Pastors thoughts, Training   No Comments »

It’s not hard to see from the Bible that Christians should care for the needy. Jesus healed the sick, preached the good news to the poor, and told us how we treat ‘the least of these’ is equivalent to how we regard Jesus. If we’re called to be like Jesus, then we should be acting in love to those in need in our community.

But it can get tricky when it comes to questions like - how should we prioritise our time? How do we avoid making it a legalistic thing? How is caring for someone’s earthly needs different to sharing the gospel with them?
“For the Poor” is a 6 week course that will look at what the bible says about caring for the poor, and moves from theology into action - with practical skills and opportunities to serve. We’ll be tackling some of the key questions that come up and hopefully getting a good understanding about what the Bible has to say. We’ll be looking at some helpful practical skills for putting what the bible says into action. And we’ll be challenging YOU to make social action a serious part of your life’s agenda.
Come if you’re willing to work hard with the scriptures, be challenged, encouraged and equipped to step out of your comfort zone and start acting for Jesus’ sake!

Coming Soon! Unichurch Ministry Expo

Unichurch Ministry Expo

Sunday May 23

Starting after the service

But what is ministry?

Ministry is serving one another, following the pattern and command of Jesus. Jesus came “not to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many” (Mark 10:45). After showing his disciples the full extent of his love (John 13:1) by washing their feet, he asked them “Do you understand what I have done for you?… If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I have given you an example, that you also should do just as I have done to you” (John 13:12-15).

This loving service can be expressed in many different ways according to the gifts and opportunities God has given us (see Romans 12:3-13, Ephesians 4:11-16, 1 Corinthians 12:27-31, Galatians 6:9-10). Teaching, encouraging, administration, contributing to others needs, showing hospitality, speaking the truth in love… all of these things should be done, and should be done in love! (1 Corinthians 13)

The Unichurch Ministry Expo will give you an opportunity to find out how you could serve God through serving others. See you there!

“I’ve eaten all my Easter-chocolate… what now?”

Easter eggs

How sweet are your words to my taste,
sweeter than honey to my mouth
!

Whoever wrote Psalm 119 knew how to fall grow in love for God. Two repeated truths are:

God’s word, laws, precepts, decrees or commands are wonderful
24 Your statutes are my delight; they are my counselors.
111 Your statutes are the joy of my heart.
129 Your statutes are wonderful; therefore I obey them.
167 I obey your statutes, for I love them greatly.

God alone can teach us to love Him
18 Open my eyes that I may see wonderful things in your law.
27
Let me understand the teaching of your precepts; then I will meditate on your wonders.
33
Teach me, O LORD, to follow your decrees; then I will keep them to the end.
35
Direct me in the path of your commands, for there I find delight.
133
Direct my footsteps according to your word; let no sin rule over me

It’s worth taking the time to read the whole Psalm and look at all the reasons the writer loves God. Then make it your prayer and your song.
