Summer Sessions

by Josh Allen | Posted on November 8th in Maturity, Membership, UniChurch   No Comments »

Summer Sessions is on again for Unichurch!

Summer Sessions is like a giant all-in Growth Group kicking on through the summer.

Come at 6:30pm for dinner ($4), meet new people, jump in to study the Bible, pray together, and hang-out into the evening. It’s fun, it’s open to visitors looking to join church, it’s for your non-Christian friends.

Greg is leading the opening night on Tuesday Nov 22nd, diving into the huge topic of prayer.

See you there :-)

On November 6 we are baptising a bunch of people who have put their trust in Jesus over the past year or so at Hunter Bible Church.  If you are interested in getting baptised then you can email Sam Hilton.  We will be running a class the week beforehand to help you think though what baptism is and why do it.  Register your interest here.

Sundae Sunday (27th Feb)

by Josh Allen | Posted on February 17th in Membership, Mission, UniChurch   No Comments »

Are you looking for a church to join?

Are you checking out Jesus?

Do you like ice-cream?

We would love to see you at Sundae Sunday!

This is what we are going to be saying to the 1000s of students we meet at O-week. We are inviting people to come to church at 6pm for free ice-cream, to meet people, and stay for the service.

So if you have moved to Newcastle for Uni and are looking for a church to join, we would love to see you there!

O-week

Do you know the chorus to Lola by the Kinks? (make sure you check out the dance moves at the end if you watch the clip)

.

.

.

.

.

.

.

Lola

Lo lo lo lo Lola

Lo lo lo lo Lola…

That’s the tune for my O-week song (I don’t really know why, maybe because it’s about meeting someone you don’t know…?). It’s a pretty simple song.

O-week

Oh oh oh oh O-week

Oh oh oh oh O-week…

.

O-week

Around 6000 students will be arriving at Newcastle Uni, and we’ll be there to invite them to church so they hear about Jesus.

It’s gonna be huge. O-week is gonna be a Unichurch Tsunami of events.

.

Monday - Friday (21-25) we are leafletting, meeting students, and running a stall in the Brennan room expo. Each day from 2-3pm we’ll be hanging out with people we have met, having coffee and running Newish.

Saturday morning (26) we are having a massive beach party! Hanging out at the beach/park (venue TBA) with all the Unichurchers and people we’ve met.

Sunday (27) is Sundae Sunday! Free ice-cream at 6pm before church, so we can chill with all the visitors.

Oh oh oh oh O-week…

The thing is, when I say “we”, I mean me and you. Me and you Unichurcher reading this post. This is only gonna happen if “we” make it happen. Me and you, meeting people, leafletting, at the stall, coming to Newish, partying at the Beach, eating ice-cream…

So free your time for O-week. Get it off work. Move back early. Sign up for Last Minute Sunday. RSVP on facebook. Buy the new Unichurch T-shirt (did I just let that out…?). Above all pray.

We aren’t doing this for us. “We” are doing this because “we” pray that God would use us to bring glory to Jesus.

O-week

Oh oh oh oh O-week

Oh oh oh oh O-week…

Priorities

by sambudden | Posted on February 1st in Events, Membership   No Comments »

Have you ever wondered what God’s priorities are?

Ever wondered how your life shapes up against God’s priorities?

If so why not come along to Next Step and spend some time thinking through God’s priorities with others.

Each night we will look into the bible at one of God’s big priorities, then spend time in discussion groups helping each other work out how God’s priorities shape our own lives. It is a great chance to think and make deliberate decisions to commit to follow Jesus with us at Hunter Bible Church.

Why not come along and make this year a year that is shaped by God’s priorities.

Some emails from Myanmar

by Kelly Landrigan | Posted on October 6th in HBC:City, HBC:Lambton, Membership, Mission, Missionary Updates, UniChurch   No Comments »

Here are a couple of emails we’ve received from the group currently in Myanmar…

Just thought we would let you know how things are going here….

We are loving meeting all the people here we have heard so much about!
The boys have been doing a cracker job with some preaching at RBI- have the translation pauses down pat!
We are looking forward to going to Blossom tomorrow!
The team is getting along really well. It has been very confronting for most of them so there is a lot of processing going on, but the team has been really honest with all that so that really helps us know where peeps are at.
Please continue to pray for the team and for perserverence for our brothers and sisters here, they are so encouraging to hang with- you should all come meet them!

Hope things are well with you all and HBC,
talk soon
Roz and team awesome

And a couple of days later…

Binglaba (hello) from Myanmar,

First of all thanks heaps for your prayers whilst we are over here.  Its been a great trip so far in many ways.  The team have been deeply encouraged to see the perserverance of the Christians over here. Matt, Ben and myself have all had a change to teach at the college. Its been very challenging for us all to experience the poverty and conditions that they live in here.  Yesterday Lincoln shared with the team his vision for RBI which helped us see how we could be supporting them when we get back to Australia.

We visited the land that they purchased.

So far no one on team has been sick praise God even though we have been eating some suspect foods.

This morning with  Lincoln and his family we are all flying to Inlya lake for a short holiday break.  We’re all looking forward to having more good fellowship time with them.

Please pray for:

1. many of the students and teachers have eye infections… pray for healing
2. Lincoln recently bought new land in another village to build the new bible college on.. please pray for great relationships with the locals and that they would be favourable for them to build
3.  for perseverance in trusting God amongst suffering and poverty.

on behalf of the team
deats  - i would write more but internet is really really slow…and i have a plane to catch :)

AIM trip

by Kelly Landrigan | Posted on July 6th in Membership, Mission, Pastors thoughts   No Comments »

Rob & Jen Alley are currently running an AIM Mission Awareness tour. The team flew to Darwin on Friday night and they’re on their way driving back over two weeks. They’ll visit various aboriginal communities and local gospel workers, to encourage them, and hear about the gospel opportunities in central Australia. Please be praying for Rob & Jen as they lead the team, which consists of a bunch of people from different churches and cities, including Kaleb from our PM congregation. These trips have had a significant impact on many people from our church in the past - for some it was a defining time in making decisions about full time vocational ministry, both in Australia and overseas. For others it was a defining time in serving regularly at church. Please pray that God would continue to use these trips for his glory.
