On Wednesday night the Elders had their regular monthly meeting. After reflecting on a passage in 2Tim and praying together, we discussed a whole range of things… We heard from Richard about MTS plans for 2010; We heard from the Treasurer (Steve Elliot) about the 2009 church budget and how things are going financially; We also agreed to propose some changes to our Constitution at the next AGM - more details to come, but they are mostly minor changes to keep our Constitution practical for our church size; I also gave an update of what the Building Feasibility Committee is up to - trying to decide if 60 Hudson St really is a property HBC should try and buy.
Also, at our previous Elders meeting we asked Sam Hilton to set up a group to discuss and recommend what, when, how and where HBC should plant a church near the lake. That group has only met once and so we heard from Sam about the types of questions they’ve raised and will try and answer in the future.
We ended the night in prayer, and we pray that you’ll join us in asking God to glorify Jesus in us at HBC and through us as we proclaim him as Lord.
Central Coast Evangelical Church has just moved into their first phase of their church building. Andrew Heard has posted some very good and wise thoughts on Churches having buildings… have a read here.
Prayerfully knowing the Bible better means knowing God better. At HBC we want to provide more opportunities for Bible learning than just Sunday sermons and Growth Groups. PTC courses are the best way to do extra Bible study this year.
If you’ve done ‘Intro to the Bible’ then this term is your chance to do OT1. This course will teach you about the Pentateuch - the first 5 books of the Bible. I did the course 10 years ago and still remember the impact it had on me!
Registrations are required by Sunday Feb 14. The group will run Fridays 6-7:30pm starting Feb 26.
Contact me at richard@hunterbiblechurch.org and I’ll get you started.
February sees the return of the Ministry Apprentices Philippians series to UniChurch. This is nice because it coincides with the return to the CT Theater!
On Feb 7 Steve will be speaking on Christ the Centre of Life from Philippians 1:18-30
Here’s a couple of questions to think about before then to get the mental juices flowing…
1. Paul seems convinced that death is beneficial (see Phil 1:21). How can death be gain?
2. What is the sign Phil 1:28 talks about?
3. What does it look like for someone to conduct themselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ? (Phil 1:27)

Its been a busy few days. Hence the lack of blog posts. But the last few days have been fantastic with today our biggest and best yet with 207 kids up to year 8 (SOLID is happening as I write). As I wandered around today I was amazed to see how well the leaders were coping with the large numbers and seemed to be able to adapt their games and teaching times on the fly to accommodate all the kids in their sections. The exciting part of the day was though that in team time leaders were able to tell us about kids who had put their trust in Jesus! Praise God - that’s what WAVE is all about!
WAVE Kids Club kicked off with a bang today. There was over 198 kids up to year 8 and 90 adults in the coffee tent which is more people than we have ever catered for before at WAVE. The kids had a great time and Brenton and Richard did great talks in the coffee tent.
It would be great if you could take some time out to pray for the leaders who are working hard at teaching kids and adults the good news of Jesus and thank God for all the kids and parents who came along to join us for the week.
BUT there is more on today….
WAVE Adults Section will be meeting at 6.30pm tonight at Newcastle Beach for some beach sports and then more activities through the week.
SOLID (yeasr 9-12) will be meeting tonight at the Black Box, Newcastle Community Arts Centre
Late in 2009, the staff, elders and members of the “HBC Building Feasibility Committee” went and had a look at 60 Hudson St, Hamilton. Its a property for sal, that we’re starting to think might just be a great opportunity for us to have a temporary home from which to preach the gospel to Newcastle… check it out.
